The challenge
Kituuma & Company brings Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths and Entrepreneurship (STEAM+E) into the places children learn: classrooms, homes and community spaces. Its founders combine developmental psychology and behaviour analysis with mechanical engineering, business leadership and STEM programme development. Its workshops cover topics such as the engineering design process, computer science, user experience and building a minimum viable product, and maths for financial planning, along with family STEAM activities and training for facilitators.
That model involves many audiences. Schools book customised workshops. Educators need curriculum and facilitator training. Families take part in activities at home. Community organisations bring programmes to their members. Each group needs different information at different times, and they all need to stay connected to the programme between sessions.
Kituuma needed digital infrastructure to support curriculum delivery and engagement across all of them. It also had to work for a small team of educators, without adding admin work or needing an engineer on call.
The approach
Discovery involved educators and programme staff directly. NASDAN mapped how curriculum content, bookings and stakeholder communication actually flowed: what was being emailed, what was being rebuilt by hand, and where schools and families were getting lost.
That produced three principles:
- Design for the educator's time. Every workflow had to save staff time, not cost it. If updating the platform felt like extra work, it wouldn't get done.
- One home for every audience. Schools, families, educators and community partners each get a clear path to what they need, from one coherent platform.
- Maintainable without engineers. Education staff own the content and run the platform day to day, so Kituuma isn't dependent on ongoing development support.
The solution
NASDAN delivered a platform for curriculum delivery and community and stakeholder engagement.
- 01 · Programme and workshop pages. Clear presentation of Kituuma's STEAM+E offer for schools, families and community organisations, so each audience quickly sees what fits them.
- 02 · Online booking and consultations. Schools and partners can book workshops and schedule consultations directly, replacing back-and-forth emails with a single flow.
- 03 · Curriculum and learning content. A structured home for curriculum topics and resources, so programme content is consistent across every school and session.
- 04 · Facilitator training pathway. A dedicated route for educators who want to bring STEAM+E into their own classrooms, which extends Kituuma's reach beyond what its own team can deliver.
- 05 · Blog and community updates. An editorial section keeps families, schools and partners engaged between programmes and shows the impact of the work.
- 06 · Staff-managed content. An easy-to-use content system lets educators update programmes, resources and posts themselves.
The results & impact
Kituuma & Company now has digital infrastructure that supports curriculum delivery and stakeholder engagement in a way its team can run sustainably over the long term. Schools and families find what they need and book directly. Educators have a clear path into the programme. The team spends its time on teaching, not on administration.
The project also fits closely with something NASDAN cares about. NASDAN runs its own STEM and robotics education programme, so its team brought first-hand experience of hands-on, practical learning to the build.
"STEAM education works when it's hands-on and practical. The platform had to work the same way: simple for educators to run, easy for schools and families to use, and built to grow."
— Daniel Nasasira, NASDAN
Why it matters
- Built for educators, not engineers. Sustainable digital infrastructure for a small, mission-driven team.
- One platform, many audiences. Schools, families, educators and community partners are all served from a single, coherent system.
- International reach. A Kampala-based technology team delivering for an education organisation in the United States.
